About - Patrick Hughes
Architectural Estimator | Construction Estimator MA
Background
Being a Craftsman and Builder comes naturally to me. Fascination with how homes were constructed had me as a young boy wandering the stick frames popping up in my Neighborhood. Shop Class’s in Junior high and High school gave me rudimentary skills but it was my mid-twenties when I landed an apprenticeship in a well know architectural Woodmill in Davenport California that in many ways would define the rest of my life. A combination of learning old school craftsmanship and methodical planning.
I picked up other finish trades and eventually moved into the field as a Master Carpenter then added small time General Contractor to the skill set. And with this combined experience rose up in responsibility to manage the entire build project from permitting thru punch list. Sometimes quite large estate type homes and spacious gardens. Overseeing all work from excavation to completion, working with the Architects and Designers listed here. Ultimately overseeing projects as diverse and out of the box as my portfolio would demonstrate.
In my Professional life considerations for better performing homes led to new ways of building, insulation types and efficient mechanical systems. Initially, these were expensive options, but they became common in the custom home world we work in. With being an experienced custom Builder and knowing many of the now common practices for Net Zero I know what it is to construct and estimate energy efficient shells and responsibly powered homes to achieve that desired Net Zero rating.
After a decade as a craftsman, master carpenter and GC, with full training in Custom Construction Management, spent several decades at the head of each project or as a consultant to one. I then transitioned that experience to a successful Estimators role for many years. Regularly wining projects ranging from $100,000 to $18,000,000.
